The meningococcal ‘c’ vaccine will soon be available to teenagers in all south-east NSW secondary schools.

The meningococcal ‘c’ vaccine will soon be available to teenagers in all south-east NSW secondary schools.The Southern Area Health Service says teenagers aged between 15 and 19 will be targeted. The service’s Margaret Lesjack says while the vaccine does not prevent all types of meningitis, studies have shown it does reduce cases of type ‘c’, which causes over half the meningococcal deaths in Australia.(Source: ABC, 22 July 2003)
