Skin cancer reminder for the Christmas period

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Cancer Council of New South Wales is reminding people to think ‘slip, slop, slap’ at all times when celebrating Christmas and the holidays.

The council warns that five doses of sunburn can double a person’s risk of developing melanoma.

Andrew McCutcheon, spokesman for the cancer council says people need to remember the beach is not the only place that the sun is a risk.

‘I think people know what to do in terms of the ‘slip, slop, slap’ message but they usually forget that if they’re just sitting outside in the backyard, sharing a meal with a bunch of friends they also need to protect themselves from the sun – it’s those times that you can also get quite sunburnt.’
