Regulations allowing Australian authorities to forcibly quarantine anyone suspected of carrying the SARS virus are expected to come into force today.

Regulations allowing Australian authorities to forcibly quarantine anyone suspected of carrying the SARS virus are expected to come into force today.The measures are part of plans to protect Australia against SARS.The decision will allow the Commonwealth to override state public health laws and implement national guidelines for treating cases of SARS at airports.It will also establish a protocol for the closure of public places and educational centres should there be a need.A total of 14 people have been identified for medical assessment at airports since the introduction of the new quarantine arrangements on Friday. None have required further medical investigation for SARS.(Source: ABC online)
