Paracetamol Study

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Researchers at UQ’s School of Pharmacy are seeking volunteers to participate in a discussion session about their use of paracetamol to treat pain. PhD student Nadia Barozzi said the school is investigating ways to give patients the most suitable prescription medicines for chronic musculoskeletal disorders. People interested in taking part in the study need to be over 18 years old and do not have to be currently using any medication.

Volunteers will need to attend a group session in Brisbane (venue arranged to suit majority of participants) for approximately two hours. Reimbursement for travelling expenses and light refreshments will be provided. Ms Barozzi said she hopes her research will help better understand long-term management of chronic arthritis pain and the relative therapy options available in Australia. "Paracetamol is often the medicine of choice for people with chronic pain such osteoarthrosis," Ms Barozzi said. "Arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions cause more disability than any other medical condition, affecting about 34 percent of all people with a disability. "It is important to understand how to use medicines most effectively to achieve the best outcomes for people. We hope our research will improve this understanding," she said.
