Ovarian cancer patients urged to eat greens

Researchers have found that women with ovarian cancer who eat more vegetables have an increased survival rate.

The Queensland Institute of Medical Research also found those who eat more dairy products are likely to have shorter survival rates.The 10-year study of 600 women reinforces research into breast and colon cancer, which also found positive effects from vegetables.Epidemiologist David Purdie says ovarian cancer sufferers who ate more vegetables lived on average 10 months longer.”We found that it was a modest increase length in their survival,” Dr Purdie said.”Women who had more than five or six servings of vegetables per day, compared to women who had say less than three servings or less than four servings of vegetables per day, were much more likely to survive from ovarian cancer and also they lived longer after they’d got a diagnosis.”(Source: ABC,Thursday, May 29, 2003. 7:03am)
