New SARS Fear grips Hong Kong

Health authorities in Hong Kong are investigating a suspected SARS outbreak in a hospital ward.Hong Kong’s Prince of Wales Hospital says 10 elderly men admitted separately to the same ward have each developed fever.It is feared the men could have SARS or the disease quickly sweeping the region, bird flu.Hong Kong has been unaffected by mainland China’s outbreaks of bird flu and SARS this year.The men have been tested, and results should be available this afternoon. No sickness has been reported in hospital staff.The Prince of Wales was where Hong Kong’s first SARS outbreak took hold last year, before it went on to kill 299 people in the territory.(Source: ABC Health News, Feb 2004)
