Irinotecan for Metastatic colorectal cancer

First-line single-agent chemotherapy is beneficial to patients with advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) in terms of both quality and quantity of life. This has been shown in individual studies and confirmed by meta-analysis The pooled analysis by Jonker et al. which incorporated the results of eight studies of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-based chemotherapy compared with best supportive care alone, found that active treatment was associated with an approximate doubling of median survival.
