ALR Technologies Inc. (OTC BB: ALRT), headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC, announced today the new home monitoring product they began developing in mid 2004 is now completed and product trials will soon begin. The ALRT Home Neb Monitoring system can allow physicians or other healthcare providers to monitor patients’ use of nebulizers in the administration of medications for treatment of conditions such as COPD, asthma, emphysema and bronchitis.

Aerosolized medications are used in treatment for millions of moderate to severe asthmatics and many of the more than 16 million people in the US with COPD, which includes people with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. A typical COPD patient is required to take their medications three to four times a day, every day and if they fail to be compliant, their health may deteriorate rapidly. The ALRT Home Neb Monitoring System will also remind the patient to use the nebulizer at the appropriate time of day as well as allow for the remote monitoring. ALR Technologies reports that industry consultants have informed them that besides providing the much needed benefits to patients, that a patient’s physician may be provided insurance reimbursement for some of the services they provide as result of the nebulizer compliance data. A marketing plan in development includes a model in which the patient will be receiving the reminder system free of charge and also not having to pay the monthly monitoring fees. Frank Nelson, president of Respiratory Compliance Solutions and past executive of major respiratory and other healthcare corporations, reports that this ALRT monitoring system can bring about significant change in respiratory care. “We at Respiratory Compliance Solutions see a new industry developing around this previously missing essential component for effective care of the respiratory patient. This new industry can empower millions of adult patients or parents of pediatric patients to take better control of their disease management activities, as well as empower the physician to better understand if, when and how the patient is complying with some of those activities. The ALRT monitoring system is a major step forward in disease management.” “Providing this service is an important step in ALR’s business development. Providing a service that may be offered at no cost to the patient while providing substantial disease management benefits is a wonderful and unique possibility,” states Stan Cruitt, president of ALR Technologies. “Patients often forget to use the nebulizer at the scheduled times or they fail to use them long enough. For example, a patient may be directed to use the nebulizer for 10 minutes each use and they may stop after only 3 or 4 minutes, thus not receiving the intended benefit of the medications.” Cruitt adds, “We have reached agreement with two of the leading nebulizer compressor manufacturers to manufacture nebulizer compressors with our system connectivity. Timetables for commercial product availability are being developed. We are also working with Respiratory Compliance Solutions on plans for developing this advance in disease management services.” The nebulizer monitoring system will provide the following benefits: — reminds the patient to use the nebulizer at each desired time of day — reminds the patient how long to use the nebulizer for each use — displays on a LCD screen the actions to take at each reminder alert — tracks whether the patient uses the nebulizer at the correct times of day — tracks whether the patient uses the nebulizer the correct length of time for each use — provides email alerts of noncompliance to designated approved parties, such as physician, family member, home care specialist, etc. — allows for more timely intervention when the patient is deemed noncompliant and could be at risk — allows for analyses of compliance behavior over time The monitoring system can also be used without the nebulizer, it is compact and transportable, and can have application with other disease states such as diabetes, heart disease and more. ALR Technologies, which specializes in health and disease management products and services, has designed and manufactures medication compliance products and compliance home-monitoring and intervention systems to meet the needs for several targeted user groups.
