The Northern Territory Government says measures are being put in place ahead of next month’s Arafura Games…….The Northern Territory Government says measures are being put in place ahead of next month’s Arafura Games to manage the global Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic. Competitor registrations are down on last year and the Government says the unfolding situation with the SARS virus is being monitored.Sports Minister John Ah Kit says the extra precautions could include additional health staff. But he says cancelling the games is not currently on the agenda.”We need to monitor it, but there’s no alarm at this stage and there’s no need to even consider cancelling the Arafura Games because that sends out all the wrong signals,” he said.”The thought of it hasn’t even crossed [the] Government’s mind.”(Source: ABC Online; Tuesday, April 15, 2003. 11:18am (AEST))
