Foods filled with certain vitamins may prevent the onset of asthma and may make kids with asthma get better. That’s important because asthma is the leading serious chronic illness among children, and cases continue to rise. A new study finds children with high levels of antioxidants have lower rates of asthma. Those antioxidants include beta carotene and vitamin C. Beta carotene is found in fruits and vegetables like carrots, oranges and mangos. Vitamin C is found in citrus, as well as strawberries, peppers, and broccoli.More than 6,000 children took part in the study by Cornell University. The reduction in asthma proved most dramatic in children who are exposed to secondhand smoke.(Source: NBC Health News, Feb 2004)
