Indication

Quickly relieves sever severe sinus pain, headaches and congestion (blocked and runny nose). In addition is treats allergic symptoms â?? itchy watery eyes and sneezing. It also reduces fever.

Action

Parecetamol treats pain and fever via uncertain mechanisms. It is not an anti inflammatory.
Pseudoephedrine treats nasal decongestion (a blocked and runny nose) by reducing the swelling in the nose. Pseudoephedrine does this by narrowing the blood vessels.
Triprolidine is an antihistamine, it relieves itchy watery eyes and sneezing.

Dose advice

-Adults (>12 years) 2 tablets, 3-4 times a day. Max-dose 8 tablets in 24 hours
-Children (6 to 12 years)-1 tablet, 3-4 times daily
-Avoid if experienced allergic reactions in past to parecetemol or pseudoephedrine.
-May cause sedation-caution with driving or operating heavy machinery
-Do not take in conjunction with alcohol or other sedatives.
Consult your doctor before using if you:
-Are pregnant or breast feeding
-Suffer from any of the following conditions:
High blood pressure, heart or vessel disease, thyroid disease, glaucoma, diabetes, enlarged prostate.
-Take antidepressant or blood pressure medication, appetite suppressants or other antihistamines.
Seek appropriate medical advice if uncertain.

Common side effects

Triprolidine- can cause sedation
Pseudoephedrine -Possible side effects due to tend to be mild and disappear quickly. These include: palpitations, increased heart rate, difficultly sleeping, lightheadedness, dizziness, headache, tremor, nervousness.
Serious side effects are very rare.
Parecetamol-Overdose symptoms are important as excess parecetamol can cause liver damage and be potentially fatal.
Symptoms develop within the first two days and include vomiting, abdominal pain, low blood pressure and sweating.
In cases of overdosage, immediately telephone the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or seek appropriate medical help.

Uncommon side effects

Possible very rare reactions include allergic reactions, hallucinations and nausea.
Seek medical advice immediately if any of the above are suspected.
