Indication

Used in the treatment of acute and temporary episodes of constipation. Suitable for use in adults, and especially useful in children and infants.

Action

Glycerin suppositories allow direct application of Glycerol to the bowel contents. Glycerol acts to make the stool softer and easier to pass out of the colon.

Dose advice

Insert one suppository well into the rectum and leave for 15-30 minutes.

It is not necessary for the whole suppository to melt for the required effect to take place.

  • Distension
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Flatulence.

Uncommon side effects

  • Diarrhoea if used in excess dosage.
