Transcript

Hello, my name is Dr Roger Goucke. I’m a pain specialist and head of the department of Pain Management at Sir Charles Gardner Hospital in Perth. I’m also the medical director of the Virtual Pain Centre, and have over 20 years of experience in managing patients with pain related conditions. I work with a number of leading pain specialists around Australia to ensure the information on the Virtual Pain Centre is up to date and, more importantly, is practical, useful and relevant to both treating medical professionals and patients with pain problems.

Chronic pain conditions are common in the Australian population and if left untreated can seriously affect a patient’s quality of life. If addressed early, conditions such as acute and recurrent back pain and other difficult to control pain conditions can, in general, be effectively treated.

Patients can use the Virtual Pain Centre to familiarise themselves with some of the common symptoms of these conditions so that they can initiate care for themselves and their families, and get information on when to seek advice from a health professional if the condition does not respond.

Professionals will also find the Virtual Pain Centre invaluable for staying abreast of the latest developments in the field, as a point of reference, and to ensure efficient promotion of public health issues. That’s why information on the Virtual Pain Centre is important for holistic patient care across all disease areas.

Membership to the Virtual Pain Centre and the Virtual Medical Centre is free and is available to both medical professionals and health consumers to allow for different information requirements.
