Melbourne Osteoporosis Support Group
About the Melbourne Osteoporosis Support Group
The Melbourne Osteoporosis Support Group began in November 1996, following an Osteoporosis Prevention & Self Management Course conducted by ‘Osteoporosis Victoria’. Course members felt that it would be worthwhile continuing to meet as no such support group existed in Melbourne. A follow-up meeting was held in February 1997 and the first official meeting was held in April 1997.
Mission
The purpose of the group is to support each other and to share information so that members are better informed to manage their Osteoporosis.
Programs and Services
Programs and services provided include:
- Support – Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every second month (February, April, June, August, October, December).
- Guest speakers – A Guest Speaker on a health topic related to Osteoporosis is invited to every meeting.
- Information – Minutes of Meetings go out to every member with a Newsletter containing details of group activities as well as information regarding Osteoporosis research, treatments etc., gathered from Osteoporosis Victoria, Osteoporosis Australia, the National Osteoporosis Society in England and the International Osteoporosis Foundation in Switzerland. Several health professionals receive our Newsletter by request.
- Courses and Events – From education in health related issues, to raising awareness and social gatherings, the Group tries to stay active and keep members involved.
