The Australian Hotels Association says confidence in the tourism industry is at an all-time low due to the SARS virus and the war in Iraq.The association’s latest survey of investor confidence in the industry shows confidence has dropped.The AHA’s deputy director, Andrew Wilsmore, says a big downturn in the number of international visitors is the main reason for the slow-down.”The level of confidence going forward in our sector is considerably bleaker than what it would otherwise have been,” Mr Wilsmore said.”The industry does continue to soften and as these survey results will show over time, the effect of SARS virus and international events have dented the confidence of our sector.”(Source: ABC Online; Thursday, April 17, 2003. 9:23am (AEST))
