The Swiss Government is reportedly thinking about slapping a tax on fats and sugar to curb a national trend towards obesity.
The Swiss Government is reportedly thinking about slapping a tax on fats and sugar to curb a national trend towards obesity.Urs Klemm is the Government official responsible for food safety and he says a significant increase in the price of the most greasy products would influence consumption and could also encourage the food industry to be more sparing in their use.The paper also says a tax could be used to pay for a Government information campaign against obesity, which is poorly-funded compared to programs against smoking and alcohol.(Source: ABC Health News, March 2004)
