In the lead up to Men’s Health Week, men across Australia are being urged to take the time to enjoy the things in life that make them happy.
Organised by Western Sydney University for June 12-18, Men’s Health Week is running hundreds of local fundraisers and special events across Australia to give men and boys the chance to engage with the people and communities that help keep them healthy.
The Assistant Director of the Men’s Health and Information Resource Centre, Dr Neil Hall, says the theme of this year’s event is Healthy Body, Healthy Mind: Keeping the Balance.
“Good health happens when we have a sense of balance in our lives and can juggle our obligations, while also taking time to enjoy family and friends, and most importantly ourselves,” says Dr Hall.
“Taking time to pursue simple activities that bring you joy is crucial in modern life, and for this year’s Men’s Health Week we’re urging men to take the time to think about how they’re managing the different areas of their lives.”
“Being healthy is more than exercising and eating well. It’s also about making the time to pursue the activities you enjoy, whether that’s connecting with mates, going to the park with the dog, or playing and watching sport.”
Hundreds of activities are being planned for Men’s Health Week. Visit the website to find something in your local community, or to submit an event yourself.
“Men’s Health Week is unique, as we don’t tell local organisers what types of events they should run,” says Dr Hall.
“These events are locally tailored and respond to the needs of men at a local level, and help provide a setting where men can feel comfortable talking about any issues they may be currently facing.”
