Passengers on a cruise of the South Pacific have returned to Sydney following an outbreak of gastro on board. The virus struck 140 passengers on the seventh day of their 11-night cruise on board the Pacific Sky, causing vomiting and diarrhoea. Managing Director of P&O Cruises, Gavin Smith, says the company will assess whether some passengers should be compensated. “We’ll look forward to reviewing each passenger’s issue and the extent on board that was affected by the illness, and then work with them on a case-by-case basis with great sympathy and consideration to look at anything from a small partial to a future cruise credit, but what we’ll do is assess that on a case-by-case basis,” he said.Staff are currently undertaking an intensive cleaning process to ensure the virus will not affect an outbound cruise leaving Sydney tonight.
