Bird Flu Crisis deepens in China

China’s bird flu outbreak continues to spread, with another outbreak being identified in a previously unaffected province.

Every day, more outbreaks of the deadly H5N1 bird flu are being reported in China.Last night, four more were announced, along with four more suspected outbreaks.The total number of cases now stands at 28 in more than a third of China’s regions.All this when less than two weeks ago the country was officially bird flu-free.More than one million ducks, chickens and geese have been culled in China as authorities try to prevent and control the spread of the virus.(Source: ABC Health News, Feb 2004)
