Enalapril-BC
Generic Name: Enalapril maleate
Product Name: Enalapril-BC
Indication
Enalapril BC is used in the treatment of:
- High Blood Pressure
- Heart failure of any severity
- Impaired function of the left ventricle of the heart.
Action
Enalapril is converted in the body into enalaprilat which is a type of drug known as an angiotensin converting enzyme or ACE inhibitor.
Enalaprilat inhibits an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme and by doing this produces dilatation of the blood vessels and increased salt and water loss from the kidneys resulting in a subsequent drop in blood pressure. Enalapril starts to lower the blood pressure within one hour after administration and has its greatest effects 4-6 hours after administration.
