Indication

Vincristine is used in the treatment of a wide variety of haematological malignancies and solid tumours.

Action

Vincristine acts by preventing cancer cells from replicating.

Dose advice

Specialist protocols should be consulted with regards to dosage.

  • Individual doses should be limited to a maximum of 2 mg.
  • Cumulative doses should not exceed 20 mg. Elderly patients may have increased susceptibility to toxicity from Vincristine. Liver function impairment: Patients with liver function impairment may require dose reduction. Vincristine should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

    Common side effects

  • Jaw pain which usually occurs only after the first and second doses.
  • Constipation.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Hair loss.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Uncommon side effects

  • Difficulty urinating.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Dizziness on moving from a lying to a standing position.
  • Shortness of Breath.
  • Deafness.
  • Balance difficulties.
