Indication

Tequin can be used to treat a range of conditions including:
-Chest infections â?? pneumonia and chronic bronchitis
-Bacterial infection of the sinuses
-gonorrhoea

Action

Tequin belongs to the quinolone group of antibiotics. It works by going into the cells of bacteria and acting on the genetic material (DNA). It is effective against a wide variety of bacteria. Tequin is primarily excreted through the kidneys – less than one percent is metabolized by the liver.

Dose advice

â?¢ Take all of the medication that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection has been completely treated
-Tablets: with or without food. 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Gonorrhoea: 400 mg single dose
-Injection: Dilute before use; admin by IV infusion over 60 mins. 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Gonorrhoea: 400 mg single dose.

Common side effects

As with any other medication, tequin can cause a number of side effects, most of which are likely to be minor and short-lived. If any uncommon or serious side effects are experienced, the patient should inform their doctor immediately.

Minor side effects include:
-Nausea
-Vomiting
-Stomach pain
-Diarrhoea
-Dizziness


Uncommon side effects

Less common side effects include:
-Headache
-Insomnia
-Depression
-Restlessness
-Arthritis
-Muscle aches
-Interstitial nephritis (inflammation of the kidney tubules)
