Indication
It is used for the relief of:
- Mild to moderate pain
- Fever
Action
Paracetamol reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins which are responsible for the mediation of pain and fever.
Dose advice
For adults: 1 to 2 tablets (500mg to 1g). This dosage may be repeated every 4 to 6 hours if necessary.
You should not take more than 8 tablets in any 24 hour period.

20’s: Unscheduled 50’s, 100’s: S2
Common side effects
Increased aminotransferases (liver enzymes) can occur if high doses of paracetamol are taken over a long period of time.
Uncommon side effects
Rare side effects include:
- Allergic reactions
- Rash
- Neutropenia
- Thrombocytopenia
- Pancytopenia
