Indication

Many people have ulcers in their stomach or duodenum that are due to the presence of a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. Klacid HP 7 is a combination of drugs used to fight this infection and treat the ulcers.

Action

Klacid HP 7 is a regimen of three separate drugs that all work in different ways:
Omeprazole: reduces acid production in the stomach and helps fight Helicobacter pylori bacteria
Amoxycillin: an antibiotic which kills bacteria by preventing them from building cell walls
Clarithromycin: an antibiotic which kills bacteria by preventing them from making proteins
Klacid HP 7: the combination of these three drugs works better to kill the bacteria than the antibiotics alone. It is a very effective combination to eradicate H. pylori infection.

Dose advice

Administration of Klacid HP 7 involves dosage of three separate drugs:
Probitor (Omeprazole): 20mg twice daily
Amoxycillin-BC (Amoxycillin trihydrate): 1g twice daily
Klacid (Clarithromycin): 500mg twice daily
This combination should be continued for seven days.

Common side effects

– diarrhoea
– nausea
– flatulence
– headache

Uncommon side effects

– upper abdominal pain
– reflux
– vomiting
– pseudomembranous colitis (severe diarrhoea requiring medical attention)
– rash
– altered sensation of taste
– inflammation of the tongue
– joint and muscle aches
– shortness of breath
– malaise
– dizziness
– insomnia
– vertigo
– hepatitis (rarely)
Allergy to some components of Klacid HP 7 is possible, if any of the following symptoms occur, cease the medication and see your doctor immediately:
– red lumpy rash of unknown cause
– hives
– trouble breathing, asthma (new since starting drug)
– fever of unknown cause
