Indication

Benadryl for the family chesty cough and nasal congestion syrup helps to clear the phlegm of a productive cough and relieve nasal congestion (blocked and runny nose).

Action

1. Pseudoephedrine â??clears nasal decongestion (blocked and runny nose) by reducing the nasal swelling. It does this by constricting blood vessels in the nose.
2. Guaifenesin – Helps to clear the lungs and respiratory tract of mucus and phelgm by making it thinner and more viscous (liquid-like).

Dose advice

Adults (>12 years) -10 mL every 4-6 hoursChildren (6-12 years) â?? 5mL every 4-6 hoursChildren (2-5 years) â?? 2.5mL every 4-6 hoursMaximum of 4 doses in 24 hoursNot for children under 2 years of age.Consult your doctor before using if you:-Are pregnant or breast feeding-Suffer from any of the following conditions:High blood pressure, heart or vessel disease, thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, enlarged prostate.-Take antidepressant or blood pressure medicationSeek appropriate medical advice if uncertain.

Common side effects

Pseudoephedrine -Possible side effects tend to be mild and disappear quickly. These include: palpitations, increased heart rate, difficultly sleeping, lightheadedness, dizziness, headache, tremor, nervousness.

Guaifenesin â??may cause nausea.


Serious side effects are very rare.

Uncommon side effects

Very rare side effects include hallucinations and difficultly urinating.Allergic reactions are very rare and may occur as a skin rash. Seek medical advice immediately if any of the above are suspected.
