Product Name: Avil Decongestant
Avil Decongestant is used to treat cold, fluâ??s or allergies when sufferering from a productive cough (coughing up phlegm) and nasal congestion (blocked or/and runny nose).
Pheniramine is an antihistamine which acts as a decongestant (clears a blocked and runny nose) by blocking the effects of histamine. Histamine causes blood vessels within the nose to become leaky. Blocking histamine relieves these symptoms.
Come as syrup in 100 mL bottle
Needs to be taken with food.
-Adults (> 12 years)- 5-10 mL 2-3 times daily
-Children (4-12 years)- 5 mL; 2-3 times daily
-Children (1-3 years) – 2.5 mL 2-3 times daily
-Not for babies
-May cause drowsiness, take precautions whilst driving or operating heavy machinery
Should not be taken with alcohol or other sedatives
Consult your doctor before using if you suffer from difficulty urinating, glaucoma, asthma.
Do not take if taking a MAOIâ??s (an antidepressant)
Contains sucrose, take note in diabetes.

Common side effects
Sedation is common, however will disappear after repeated doses.
Uncommon side effects
-Possible allergic reactions such as skin rashes, difficulty in breathing, fever, hives, swollen face, lips and tongue, anaphylactic shock and blood reactions.
-Other side effects may include tiredness, dizziness, ringing in the ears, difficultly concentrating, difficulty with cooridination, irratabilty, difficulty sleeping, tremors, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dry mouth, constipation, loss of appetite, difficulty urinating, palpitations, headache, blurred vision and muscle weakness.
-May be hallucinogenic in large doses.-In overdose adults may experiences restlessness, disorientation and children may experiences agitation and fits.
