Indication

Naproxen is used to relieve pain and inflammation in
-Rheumatoid arthritis
-Osteoarthritis
-Ankylosing spondylitis
-Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

It is also used in the treatment of
-Period pain
-Certain types of abnormal vaginal
-bleeding
-Migraine

Action

Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAIDs relieve pain and inflammation by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which have an important involvement in the production of inflammation, pain and fever in the body

Dose advice

The usual dose is 250â??500 mg given twice daily.
The maximum recommended daily dose is 1250 mg.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
10â??15 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses.

Dysmenorrhoea
The initial recommended dose is 500 mg
This is followed by 250 mg every 6â??8 hours as required.


Migraine
The initial recommended dose is 750 mg initially
This is followed an additional 250â??500 mg after a time period of at least 1 hour if required.
