Generic Name: Codeine phosphate

Used for symptom relief in non-productive cough

Not to be used in asthma, COPD or respiratory failure


Acts by suppressing the cough center in the brain

Dose advice

  • Adult: 15-30mg 3-4 times daily
  • Child: 2-5 years: 3mg, 3-4 times daily
  • 5 years: 7.5-15mg, 3-4 times daily
  • Not to be used in children < 2years
  • Pregnancy: Safe to use. ADEC category A
  • Lactation: No data available but should be safe to use
